Put Your Heart Where Your Mouth Is – 22nd Anniversary Compedium<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

At long last, 2nd Best has been able to make available the 22nd Anniversary Compedium version of “Put You Heart Where Your Mouth Is.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This release features eleven tracks including one all-new recording and two digital remixes of previous songs. The album officially was set to release December 20th, 2024, but just squeaked by in the digital distribution on December 31st! Phew, just in time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s what Paul had to say about it on behalf of the band:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2002 was a significant year for me but I hardly knew it at the time. Our band had just shuffled up members and we were all busy with college, yet suddenly we had scheduled time to go back into the studio to record a second 2nd Best album with more of a pop-punk focus. We hardly knew what we were doing, and some of those songs we’d never even played live, but TJ, Shane, and I hammered it out over maybe 2 weeks of studio time. Luckily, I had the foresight to ask for the master Protools sessions before we left the late Twofish Studios in Mankato, Minnesota, and plop them on my enormous (at the time) hard drive.<\/p>

About a year ago, our friend Tony, TJ, Shane, and I found ourselves on a group text talking about playing around with the old songs. There were a lot of crazy ideas being considered that seemed like a lot more work than just revisiting the old masters. Using a little bit of elbow grease, we cracked open the hardly-touched 20-year-old digital files and transferred them into our DAW of choice, Logic. The rest, as you’ll hear, speaks for itself. Shane and TJ have a real gift for audio engineering and did most of the heavy lifting on these songs and I am eternally grateful for that.<\/p>

To me, this is a magical release because the songs sound like I always heard them in my head. For some reason, we never really explored vocal harmonies or overdubs when we recorded the first time, maybe because every hour you spent in the studio cost serious money that we didn’t have, maybe because we thought we were too punk-rock-cool to make our voices pretty, or most likely, we just hadn’t developed enough musically to realize the full potential of these pop songs. I think we have now, but you’ll have to be the judge, all 27 of you.<\/p>

We even created an all-new recording of a fan-favorite song! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed the whole process of bringing these tunes back from the dead for the last time. I think I personally can finally come to peace with 2nd Best being over, 22 years later, because we finally put our hearts where our mouthes are. Party on.
